The Advanced Critical Language Institute (ACLI)

About the Program

The 2018 Advanced Critical Language Institute for Russian Immersion (ACLI) is specifically designed to help students of all levels improve their fluency in all aspects of the Russian language. All participants study for four to five hours daily in small groups with native speaking specialists from St. Petersburg State University, one of Russia’s oldest and most famous educational institutions. In the afternoon and at weekends the participants visit museums, go on a traditional boat ride along the rivers and canals, explore the city, and attend excursions. An organized weekend trip to Moscow is an option for those who are interested in visiting the capital. Participants live in student residence hall. Homestays are available upon request.

Credits:

Through ACLI, beginning students earn 7 credits in four weeks. Intermediate and Advanced students have the option of pursuing up to 6 credits in four weeks.

Requirements

  • GPA 2.0
  • All undergraduate and graduate students in good academic standing may apply
  • Applicants MUST have a current passport that has two blank adjacent visa pages and that is valid through at least Jan 2019
  • Candidates may be interviewed to determine their qualifications for participating and representing Stony Brook University abroad

Additional Information

Credits earned on this program will calculate toward a student’s GPA at Stony Brook University.  Non-SBU students are advised to check their home university policy on grade and credit transfer.
